Chapter 1
I looked at myself in the mirror, I hadn't changed much really. My hair was the same, my eyes, teeth, nose, everything, so why did people whisper behind my back "Wow! He's changed."
I never understood why people did that anyways. I was still doing concerts and writing music. I mean, not like Jesse has changed or anything. I was, and still am Jesse McCartney, the fun loving kid who is so energetic about his music and loves it when people recongize me in the streets. It makes me feel like my fans still love me.
I just kept saying this to myself over and over again in my head. I looked closer in the mirror and frowned, "Who am I kidding? I'm not a kid any more, I'm not as energetic as I use to be. And face it man, hardly anybody ever comes up to me and asks for a picture or autograph."
I sighed and faced reality, fame doesn't stay for too long. I had just broken off a relationship with Ashley and I couldn't even give a good reason why. Ashley was a sweet girl, and pretty and smart, but I was just... unhappy.
I reached in my pocket and looked at the bottle my doctor had given me a few days ago, depression pills. It was true, I had slopped to a deep depression lately and was having trouble staying focused.
I opened the cap and popped a couple pills and swallowed them dry, that's not a good thing to do but I didn't want to risk drinking from a bathroom sink.
"Jesse!" I heard someone hollar from outside. I turned and faced the door, "Yeah?"
"Come one, people are waiting for you", I heard my manager say. I looked at myself in the mirror again and sighed, "Can't keep the fans waiting."
Once I stepped out a bunch of flashing cameras blinded me and I raised a hand to sheild my eyes from the blinding lights. I smiled when I heard screaming girls and got a couple pictures in. All of them were thirteen and younger, that's what my music was attracting now a days. I sat down at a table and watched as a little girl stepped up. She was wearing glasses and had braces on with her dark hair tied in a piggie tails, "Hi."
"Hi ", I said as the girl slapped down a poster of me. I looked at it for a second and quickly signed it and passed it back to her, "There you go."
"Thanks", she said as she pulled the poster to her chest and smiled. I smiled and watched as she stepped aside and another little girl stepped up with her dad. I signed many posters and took many pictures with alot of kids and a few teenagers here and there. It wasn't til the end of the line when I heard the bell over the door ring and I looked up. And there she was. Beauty was writen all over her face with her long red hair and her shining emerald eyes. She looked around and walked to the front desk of the CD store and talked to the person behind the counter. She jumped over and fixed her skirt and her black tank top with a rose printed on her side. She popped her gum and threw on some headsets as she flipped over a CD and read the back of it.
I couldn't stop looking at her. She was so beautiful...
"Hey", someone screamed. I jerked and looked at the little girl. I signed her CD about three times and then began to sign her hand. Her and everyone else behind her looked at me. The little girl's mouth had fallen and she put a hand to her hip, "Watch what you are signing, please?"
Uh, she was sassy. I smiled, "Well look at the bright side, you can get it tattooed and it'll stay forever."
The little girl smiled and looked at her dad, "I want it tattooed!"
Her dad looked at me and snickered, "Thanks, boy."
He jerked his daughter around and they began to argue until he pushed her out of the store. I sighed and went back to my stuff when I looked out of the corner of my eye. I almost didn't believe what I saw. She was playing air guitar while standing on the counter!
